Reviews

The Smoke House was a lovely and spacious cottage. My daughter and the dog enjoyed running around in the garden, and the pool was superb! A very quiet location, we heard cuckoos and saw woodpeckers - and Steve and his family made us very welcome. There are good places to visit (with the dog) - Thetford Forest (car parking prices a bit steep though), Helmingham Hall Gardens with a super display of Iris, aquilegia and peonies whilst we were there, Bury St Edmunds - parks good for the dog, shops good for the people, and Ickworth House (NT) - restrictions on dog in formal gardens, but extensive walks in grounds. There is a beautiful fan collection in the house.

Peaceful pleasant relaxing friendly atmosphere. The ability to go for walks in the countryside straight from the front door was a joy. An interesting farm location with many original Victorian features within the grade 2 listed buildings.

This beautiful county is situated to the south of Norfolk, with Cambridgeshire to the west, Essex to the south, and the North Sea to the east. It has much to offer the visitor, including the wetlands of the Broads, the Wool Towns, and a coastal strip to the east known as “The Sandlings”. There are over 5000km of marked paths as well as national cycle routes, along with country parks, nature reserves such as the Trimley Marshes, and picnic sites.

Suffolk’s notable towns include Ipswich (the county town), Felixstowe, Lowestoft, Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket.

West Suffolk is famed for its archaeological discoveries, especially that at Sutton Hoo in 1939. A grassy mound was found to be a ship burial ground containing a collection of Anglo-Saxon treasures, including a Sword of State, a shield, a helmet, gold and silver bowls, jewellery and a lyre. The site is now owned by the National Trust.
